Famous Cat Dads: A Who’s Who of Feline Fathers

First things first…all cat dads rule!

But, for the purposes of this post, we’re celebrating some of the most recognizable cat dads out there — the ones who may walk the red carpet at night or dunk basketballs during the day, but also don’t mind scooping the litter box now and again.

Robert Downey Jr. – Still a huge pop culture presence post-Marvel and has shared glimpses of his cats over the years.

Mark Ruffalo— The fellow Avengers star also appears to have an affinity for cats.

Karl Lagerfeld – Even despite his passing, the fashion icon’s beloved cat, Choupette, is treated like royalty.

Ed Sheeran – Shares his home with two famous cats, Calippo and Dorito, and even made them an Instagram.

Mark Twain – The author was famously quoted: “If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat.”

NBA Cat Dads – You’d never know it from their towering physique, but there’s quite a few NBA players who consider themselves proud cat dads.

  • Freddie Mercury – The Queen frontman adored his cats and reportedly had multiple of them.
  • Ernest Hemingway – The author kept dozens of cats in Key West throughout his life.
  • Ricky Gervais – Comedian and animal advocate who loved his late cat Ollie, but ended up fostering another feline.
  • Winston Churchill – Had several famous cats who lived with him at Chartwell.
  • Andy Warhol – Lived with 25 cats, all named Sam (except one named Hester).
