Top 10 Must-See Cat Murals Across the United States

From coast to coast, America’s walls and buildings are alive with color, creativity, and…cats.

Murals of our feline friends have been popping up in cities big and small, turning blank walls into works of art that celebrate curiosity, independence, and the playful spirit of cats. We would know, after all, we’ve been on quite the tour of the country — ranking the Top Cat Kingdoms.

These travels thus far have led to an incredible list of artistic endeavors.

Whether it’s a towering tabby stretched across a city block, a whimsical kitten tucked into an alleyway, or a larger-than-life portrait that makes you stop and smile, these murals are more than just eye-catching—they’re community landmarks and cultural love letters to cats.

Behold…below are the best cat murals (past and present) found all throughout the United States.

1. Black Cat Alley – Milwaukee, WI

Located just behind Milwaukee’s Oriental Theatre, Black Cat Alley is a one-block art destination featuring rotating murals—many with feline themes. The alley has earned a reputation as a street art mecca with more than 20,000 visitors a year. It’s not always cat imagery, but the alley’s name and recurring feline motifs make it a must-see for cat art lovers.

2. City Kitty Murals – New York City, NY

In multiple NYC neighborhoods, artist City Kitty integrates felines into urban scenes: perched on street signs, boarding subways, and mingling with local architecture. These pieces capture how cats inhabit city spaces and remind us of the unexpected feline neighbors we brush past daily.

3. Cat AlleY – Manchester, NH

There’s a cool little corridor in the Granite State loaded with cartoon cats. The alley — which reportedly got its name when a prominent Manchester hotelier “once saw there a fierce battle between two felines” — features 18 whimsical murals of cats.

4. Crazy Cat, Crazy Quilt – Cincinnati, OH

This massive mural from ArtWorks honors the accomplished life and career of Cincinnati Master artist, Edie Harper, whose favorite cat, Katrinka, is now colorfully depicted on the side of a building in downtown Cincinnati.

5. Resting Place – Chicago, IL

Done in 2023 by Pilsen artist Caesar Perez, the gigantic mural features a resting cat adorned with curious birds and evokes “peace and comfort in the environment, a time of rest from craziness of everyday life.”

6. Fishtown – Philadelphia, PA

It’s a popular spot in Philly — also the No. 3 city on our list of Top Cat Kingdoms — and it’s loaded with public art, most notably a group of big cats welcoming everyone to the area.

7. Pete the Cat – Fort Payne, Alabama

In the heart of this small Alabama town is an enormous mural of everybody’s favorite feline from the children’s book — Pete the Cat. Why? Turns out one of the creators of the series is from this mountain town.

8. #Grumpyforever – Milwaukee, WI

RIP Grumpy Cat. The internet sensation who reigned supreme as the face of memes is immortalized on the side of a building in Milwaukee thanks to a group called It’s Mathematical.

9. Alley Cats  – Hutchinson, KS

Art for a cause is always something we can get behind. Which is why this mural from artist Jose Ray in support of the Hutchinson Street Cat Society is really something we adore.

10. Feelin’ Lucky – Nashville, TN

Outside an Asian street food chain restaurant on Main Street is an awesome mural created by Mobe Oner featuring images of the familiar Maneki-neko, the Japanese beckoning cat.

And that’s just a small sampling of the street art found all over the United States. There’s likely much more we haven’t heard of, not to mention the countless installations from International artists found all over the world.
