Cat-Lovers Join Famous Cats to Help Donate 50,000 Pounds of Litter through the GiveLitter™ Charity
Record-breaking Online Charity Effort Results in more than 100,000 Votes to Support Shelter Cats in Need
Muscatine, IA - March 31, 2014 – Famous cats have teamed up with online cat-lovers to donate 50,000 pounds of free World's Best Cat Litter™ to shelters in need during what organizers are describing as a record-breaking round of the GiveLItter™ charity.
Five shelters around the country will receive thousands of pounds of litter as a result of this unique charity effort sponsored by World's Best Cat Litter™.
GiveLitter™ partnered with famous cats Lil BUB, Hamilton the Hipster Cat, Murdock the Marvelous and Nala Cat to launch the largest round of GiveLitter™ to date, and cat lovers everywhere responded. From March 17-26, more than 100,000 fans from all over the county cast votes online to help famous cats.
The owners of the famous cats selected shelters to participate, and the final litter winnings were determined by total votes for each cat. The famous cats, the shelters they selected, and World's Best Cat Litter™ spread the word on Facebook and other social media networks to draw more awareness and participation.
- Lil BUB is splitting 20,000 pounds of litter evenly between the Bloomington Animal Shelter and the Ouabache Valley Felines and Friends, Inc., both in Indiana.
- Nala Cat is donating 15,000 pounds of litter to the Kitten Rescue Animal Shelter in Los Angeles, CA.
- Hamilton the Hipster Cat is donating 10,000 pounds of litter to the Humane Society Silicon Valley in Milpitas, CA.
- Murdock the Marvelous is donating 5,000 pounds of litter to the Sonoma Humane Society in Santa Rosa, CA.
This round of GiveLitter™ marks the first time World's Best Cat Litter™ has partnered with famous cats to help broaden the reach and influence of this unique cat charity.
"We are so humbled and thrilled by the generosity of all who participated in this round of GiveLitter," said Jean Broders, Brand Manager of World's Best Cat Litter™. "The sheer volume of votes that Lil BUB, Nala Cat, Hamilton the Hipster Cat and Murdock the Marvelous received during this round of GiveLitter shows the diversity and commi™ent of cat lovers. We loved working with these cats and are thrilled to see such amazing participation to help shelter cats in need."
The partnership also complements the World's Best Cat Litter™ #IMACRAZYCATLADY campaign that challenges the "crazy cat lady" stereotype by celebrating cat owner pride and showing how diverse cat lovers really are. The campaign uses www.GetAwayFromClay.com to educate today's cat owners about the reasons to "get away" from clay litters and move toward a simple, sustainable and safe litter box solution.
Since it began in 2010, the GiveLitter™ charity has empowered cat lovers to donate 346,651 pounds of free litter to deserving shelters across the country.
