Ensure Harmless Tricks and Give the Treat of Safety to Your Cat this Halloween

Happy Halloween to all,
Greetings ghosts, goblins, and cat creatures! We hope everyone is getting excited for the upcoming holiday. We here at World’s Best Cat Litter™ are anxiously waiting for our two favorite days of Catober: National Cat Day and, of course every Frankencat’s favorite, Halloween.

That’s right, October 29 is National Cat Day! For those of you unfamiliar with the commemoration, here is some background from www.nationalcatday.com:

National Cat Day was founded by Pet Lifestyle Expert & Animal Behaviorist, Colleen Paige to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued each year and also to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cat(s) in their life for the unconditional love and companionship they bestow upon us.

Estimates reveal that there are approximately 4 million cats entering shelters every year with 1-2 million being euthanized. Often cats are overlooked and under-appreciated because they don’t usually have jobs like dogs. But cats still lower blood pressure, offer unconditional love and companionship and alert their owner of danger.

Cats have so many puuuurrrrsonalities and there is so much to love about them! Even if you can’t adopt a cat, offer to volunteer to clean a cage or sit and play with a cat for a while. Who knows? You may just fall in love!

Please visit your local shelter on October 29th, offering love and life by adopting a homeless cat. The goal of National Cat Day is to facilitate the adoption of 10,000 shelter cats nationwide on October 29th.

It’s no accident that National Cat Day falls just a few days before Halloween. As you well know, each Halloween, there are a certain few that choose to harm others. Sadly, the most common victims are cats. Black cats are especially susceptible to danger due to superstitions and legends that hold black cats as bad luck. To ensure your cat gets nothing but treats this Trick or Treats, we offer these tips:

  • Keep your cat indoors as much as possible during the few days leading up to Halloween,as well as during the actual Halloween festivities.
  • Keep a close eye on your cat while greeting trick-or-treaters and guests to make sure your cat doesn’t escape out the door.
  • If your cat is outside, try to keep an eye on it as visitors enter and leave your house or apartment.
  • Make sure all treats, candies and foil wrappers aren’t accessible to your cat. We recommend keeping them in a place they can’t reach or in a sealed container.

Well, that’s it for meow! We wish everyone the best of luck during both of these great holidays! Please feel free to tell us anything special, fun or exciting you are doing with your cat or pet as part of the festivities!

Boo!

Help Give World’s Best Cat Litter™ to Cats in Need

Tell us what charity, foundation or rescue group you want us to donate to!

With the holidays rapidly approaching, we here at World’s Best Cat Litter™ realize there are a lot of cats in need during this special season. In the spirit of giving, our mission is to put some much-needed litter under the paws of cats around the country … with your help.

What do we need from you? Well, it’s quite simple—we want you to recommend a charity, foundation, rescue group or needy cat that could use some litter.

To participate, please leave a comment on this post and tell us why we you are recommending your choice. We will then draw two submissions, five days after each post, and send each a 34-lb bag of cat litter. And we’ll post the names of our winners—and the people who recommended them—in upcoming blogs!

This program only lasts for two more months, so what are you waiting for? Get out there and find some cats that need a little extra help this holiday season!

Very Best,
–World’s Best Cat Litter™

How green is your world?

For some of us, the inconvenient truth is this: when it comes to “greening” our home, our lifestyle, our family and our pets, we are not always sure where to begin. Here are some easy-to-embrace, eco-friendly tips. Try some. Try them all. We and the planet may be better for it.

  • One coffee cup? Two cereal bowls? Don’t put the dishwasher to work. Rinse and air dry. Run the energy-sapping dishwasher only when it’s full and on its energy-saver mode.
  • Take shorter showers and consider the bath a special treat. Hot water heaters are a major energy drain. Insulate your water heater. And, install low-flow shower heads: you’ll cut your water usage and water heating costs.
  • Use more energy-efficient lighting throughout your home. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have
come a long way and are often 10 times more efficient than compact fluorescents.
  • Choose pet products and pet health care providers who share your concern for the natural world. For example, World’s Best Cat Litter™ is made from all-natural ingredients with no added chemicals or perfumes, so it is totally safe for cats and the whole family. The chemical-free litter is especially suitable for people and pets with allergies and chemical sensitivities because it is silica dust-free. Also, the product is safe if ingested by pets or humans because it contains no toxins.
  • Close down your computer at night. Hitting the off button is worth an average of $90 of electricity a year. The Department of Energy recommends shutting off your monitor if you aren’t going to use it for more than 20 minutes, and the whole system if you’ll be off line for more than two hours.
  • One day each week, leave the car in the garage all day.
  • Our parents were on to something, when leaving a room, turn out the lights!
  • Drip. Drip. Drip. A leaky faucet can lose up to 20 gallons of water a day. A leaky toilet can flush an extra 200 gallons every day! Put half dozen drops of food coloring in the tank. Wait ten minutes. If you then find color in the bowl, you’ve got a leaker.
  • Planning to build a new home or add on to your existing residence? Locate contractors who participate in green building programs.
  • Take a cue from our grandparents. Use natural resources to clean. Lemon juice and vinegar were powerful tools in the past!
  • Get out the caulking gun and weather strip your home.
  • Walk, bike or car pool whenever possible. You’ll save energy and burn a few extra calories!
